Beards and bald heads

what do you think about the wts prohibition on beards?

currently in the us, i think a brother can wear a beard, he just won't be used in the congregation.

i see all references in the wt to beards are in a negative light, such as the supreme court upholding a supermarket chains no beards rule.

My hubby finally grew a beard a year ago after wanting one for 40 years! No one recognizes him. He saw a brother from our former congregation yesterday, said hi, and the brother conversed with him, but probably went away asking himself "who was that"? His beard is like Sean Connery's beard in Hunt for Red October, very trim. I think it looks great!

Interesting, the scripture the Wt uses to say we shouldn't have tatoos is Lev 19:28. If you read Lev 19:27 it says not to cut the extremity of your beard. Use this part, ignore that part. Just like the WT. Make the scriptures fit their beliefs, instead of beliefs fit the Bible.

hello everyone.. i'm an "active" jw and have been for...13 years but my faith in the jw org died about 5 years ago.. so, i've been doing the jw thing for 5 years now without believing in it.

i might be an ms soon, unfortunately.. i tried telling my parents about it but they said apostates are good with twisting words and whatnot.. they wouldn't even let me show them evidence of wt hypocrisy; however, my mother did say she found it odd that every once in a while, there's that publisher resolution of donating a certain amount a year.

there might be hope for her yet.

I agree, there is a lot of pressure being a MS. Maybe faking "depression" with all this pressure. You remember the "meeting sickness"? I think all of us have played that at one time or the other. I would think after a little while of putting off being an MS, and slacking hours etc, they'd move on to someone else.

We knew him, and were in the same congregation, before moving. Didn't have a clue he was out until two years ago. Didn't realize who Putternut was for quite awhile, then heard his name and things clicked. Was a great guy, father etc. Had a hand crafted jewelry business when we knew him. Miss him too! Wish things weren't so secretive with shunning etc, so all could find out just how many from their local areas have left. Glad there is a place for us to go to find peace, and good friends.

celebrating christmas

i left the dubs about 10 yrs ago.... but didn't celebrate xmas until about 7yrs ago.

even then i didn't get a tree... just kept it simple.. do it all now!

love it.. even if it's not christs birthday..... who cares?????

Hey Black Pearl...thought you'd be out cold by now, but looks like you have a second wind and you'll be posting for a couple hours more!!!

We did a lot of research on Xmas last year and came to the conclusion it had to be a personal decision. Not sure just what we'll do. Bought cards, gift wrap etc, but still that nagging ??? in the back of my mind. It's hard to just ignore what you've believed your whole life, yet I keep telling myself, the WT has lied about so many other things, telling only half truths and even conceiling other things, so I imagine that has been the case with Xmas. We'll see what the year brings. I do agree, it's a time for families to get together. And the giving, at least that time of year it prompts people to give and help others. As a JW, you live in a fish bowl, and neighborly love is pretty much in that bowl.

Is there anyway anyone can deny all religion is nothing more than guesses?

see it all the time...and children even talking about it!.

is there any evidence that can prove all religions are nothing more than other mens guesses into the intentions and plans of god?.

we cannot even discern each others intentions or thoughts...how can someone claim to know god's?

What makes it even more confusing is to read different translations of the Bible. The wording of these translators varies greatly, as does the meaning of many of the words. It is up to the discretion of the translators to choose what words they will use, and there is a lot of bias. I especially found this in the NWT, the Bible I trusted my whole life. On important matters, I read a number of translations to get a better understanding of what they may be talking about.

What Do You Think About The "Faithful&Discreet Slave Class"?

there are so many new posters here now, i think this topic should be revisited.

i believe the most ridiculous belief that witnesses have is a "slave class" made up of 144,000 give spiritual "food at the proper time".

why can't jws see thru this??

The number 144,000 should make one think, expecially when the scriptures used are said to be all symbolic, except the number itself. What a crock! It's also interesting when you look at the scriture used to prove the "faithful slave". The Wt admits that Jesus always spoke in parables. This is the only one they say isn't really a parable, but reality. You really can make the Bible say whatever you want it to say when you take one scripture here and one scripture there, and or take them out of context.

My oldest son found me this morning!!!

i've looked for him for 16 yrs.

and he found me this morning.

:) there are 8 and my oldest son has the only two g/sons that i have.. we were lost to each other before i left the wts, because when i lived in california and he lived in colorado springs, we both moved at the same time and we each had unlisted numbers.. i'm very, very pleased and excited.

Wonderful news!!! So happy for you. We "lost" our son and his family a couple years ago to the WT. I pray someday he'll see that we still love him, unconditionally. I'm thankful our other children and their families are out, and we are a loving family.

Wouldn't It Be Nice...

wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a world were religion/cults did not get in the way of family relations?

i have now gotten the "cold shoulder" for almost two weeks from my wife of almost 28 years.

i'm sure it has something to do with finally telling her the elders can kiss my ass, and that i don't want to be there when the kool-aid comes out.

When my husband first began "looking" it really upset me. He'd want to show me things, and I'd not want to look or hear. Finally one night I began crying, saying before long he would be out of the "truth" and I would probably be out too. He burned in the fireplace everything that he'd been printing, but he couldn't leave it alone. In a couple weeks, he was back on JWD. One nite, when we got home from meeting, he made the comment JW's didn't have Jesus as their mediator. I was angry, and said it was just apostate talk. He said he was reading it for himself on the computer. I spent the next 2 hours looking up everything I could find on the CD ROM about "mediator". Sure enough, he was right. That was a beginning of my doing my own research. Maybe a gentle hint here and there would help. It worked in my case.

WATCHTOWER loses in court!

I recently found newspaper articles that my sister sent me in 2001 from Louisville, KY, regarding Bill Bowen and what was happening in the WT. At the time, we were still pretty loyal JW's, so dismissed it all as Satan's tactics and lies. I look at these articles now and shake my head in disgust. It's something how you, as a JW, or cult member, can read and hear such things and really believe there is no truth in them, at least not want to check things out further. It was later that year that we began our search for real truth.

Heard on the radio yesterday, a commentator, discussing the problems with the Catholic Church. Last year Barbara Anderson was on this radio program regarding the WT. Its all around, and bringing many to the point of wanting to know more. The Catholics are paying through the nose, losing some of their churches around here, as well as a boys school. Look for things to happen with the WT as the courts tear down the curtain that the WT has tried to insulate itself with. The elders will sure be surprised when there is little legal support for individuals in the courts. Maybe some of them will begin to look closer too.

Oh Brother....

this morning my doorbell rang, and i usually never answer my door unless i know someone is coming, because this is thick jw territory, but i did, and low and behold, its a lone jw.

he was working on the construction site across the street and was trying to locate the owners of a cat he kept seeing.

he didn't recognize me at first, he was looking at my halloween decorations, and then back at me like he knew something was off...so finally, he asked my name.
